Collection: Call of the Water
Original Plein-Air oil paintings capturing the ancient bond between human and nature. A journey through the Sierra Nevadas in search of myself.
Water holds an immense power. The ability to mesmerize through a glassy lake or soothe through the rocking rhythm of the ocean. Like an enchanting lullaby, it melts away your woes and allows you to feel the present moment. It offers a moment of clarity; an opportunity to reflect. Gazing upon the endless blue, anything is possible. Like the moon pulling the tides, I felt the call of water stronger than ever before. I didn't know why, or when, or how, but I knew this was something I had to do. After months of preparation, and a little blind faith, I packed up my car and my easel and set off to the mountains.
Each painting holds elements from a sacred place that called to me, encapsulating the mystifying bond between human and nature in between layers of pigment and paint. Breeze from the sea, salt from the earth, and whispers from the wind crystallized through each brushstroke into a portal; a window into this magical moment, transcending space and time.
These waters empowered me with the strength to find myself again.
In a time when I felt lost, I knew I would find my way by answering the call of the water.
What does the water call out to you?
Will you answer it?

What did the water have to say?
I found peace in the sun-drenched mountains. Vigor as the cool water splashed across my bare toes. Courage through the cold nights alone in my tent as the wind howled and ripped through the trees until daybreak. Perserverance as I lugged my cart full of paints and brushes over rocks and sand, through trees and around boulders, not stopping until I found the perfect spot. Although I was racing the sunset, the pressure felt weightless, for there was no one to answer to but myself. The mountains were kind and encouraging, and the water invited me to play, refresh, reset. I found balance among the trees, confidence within the breeze, hope in the glimmers of the sun dancing across the water, and magic within myself. I held the power all along to change my life. To fight for myself. To carve out my own path and figure it out along the way. I just needed a little push, a reminder from Mother Nature. A reset. This collection of work has no human subjects. It reflects the relationship between the viewer and nature itself. The magical, ancient bond between human and earth. Each painting holds sand from the beach, water from the lakes, and whispers of the wind, all encapsulated within each layer of paint. When gazing upon each painting, ask yourself this: what does the water call out to you?
